Drain Unblocking & Blocked Drain Clearance in Sussex, 24/7
Call 07404 434534 · 24/7 · no call-out fee · same-day across East & West Sussex
Sink backing up, toilet not going down, gully overflowing onto the path? Drain unblocking is what Drains 4 Brighton does, and it is all we do. We are owner-run, based in Sussex, and out on the road across Brighton & Hove, East Sussex and West Sussex at any hour.
Who can clear a blocked drain in Sussex?
Drains 4 Brighton covers East and West Sussex for blocked drains, 24 hours a day, including Brighton, Hove, Worthing, Crawley, Eastbourne, Hastings and Chichester. The engineer is Danny Ozoum, who owns the business and does the work himself. He clears blocked sinks, toilets, outside gullies and shared runs with rods, high-pressure water jetting or by hand, picking whatever the blockage actually calls for once he has looked at it.
Sussex ground makes a difference to what he finds. Chalk under the Downs shifts water fast and dumps it into gullies below the scarp. The Wealden clay inland sits wet and slow. Coastal gullies silt up with sand, salt and shingle off the beach.
There is no call-out fee, the price is agreed with you on the phone before anything starts, and most jobs are same-day, often within a couple of hours if water is rising. Blocked right now? Ring 07404 434534.
What we clear
Unblocking is the whole business here, not something bolted on to a longer price list:
- Outside drains and gullies, which is most of what we get called to
- Toilets, cleared quickly and without leaving a mess behind
- Sinks, baths and showers furred up with grease, soap and hair
- Shared and combined drains under older terraces and Victorian runs
- Commercial drains for shops, pubs, offices and rental properties
- Overflows out of hours, nights and weekends included
The tools are rods, a jetter, and hands where hands work better.
Clearance is our limit. If a drain turns out to need something past that, we say so plainly instead of selling you work.

Blocked drain FAQs
Do you charge a call-out fee? No. You pay for the clearance, at the price agreed before we start.
Are you really available 24/7? Yes. Nights, weekends and bank holidays, anywhere in Sussex.
Who is responsible for my blocked drain? Usually you for the pipes inside your boundary, and Southern Water for the shared sewers beyond it. The part most people miss is the shared run. Since 2011 the drains that carry waste from more than one property, the lateral pipes past your boundary, passed to the water company, which here is Southern Water. So a blockage in the pipe that only serves your house is yours to sort out, while one in a shared run under a Victorian terrace is often theirs. Either way you want it clearing quickly, and it is rarely obvious from the plughole which side of the boundary the blockage sits on. Danny can clear it and tell you which pipe it was in, which is exactly what you need if you then go back to Southern Water. There is a fuller breakdown in our guide: Who is responsible for a blocked drain?
How fast can you get to me? Same-day is the normal answer, and often within a couple of hours if water is rising. Danny works the whole of Sussex from one van, so the exact time depends on where you are and what he is already on. A backing-up drain in central Brighton or Hove is usually quickest to reach. Somewhere out past the Downs, in the Weald or along the Rother, can take a little longer, and he will give you a real time window on the phone rather than a vague promise. Nights, weekends and bank holidays are covered on the same number, so a Sunday-night overflow gets answered the same as a Tuesday-morning one. If it is an emergency, with water coming up through a gully or a toilet, say so when you call and it moves to the front of the queue.
What does drain unblocking involve? Drain unblocking and blocked-drain clearance are two names for the same job. The method depends on what is stuck and where it sits. A furred-up sink or a toilet that has stopped usually moves with rods or a plunger through the trap. A gully full of silt, or a shared run backing up under a terrace, tends to need the high-pressure jetter, which strips the pipe back to a full bore instead of just poking a hole through the middle of the blockage. Danny checks the access point first, at the manhole or the gully, so he clears from the right end rather than guessing from the plughole. Once it runs he flushes it through and watches the flow before packing up, because a drain that clears for two minutes and blocks again has not really been fixed.
